God's perfect timing

July 25, 2018

God’s care for the children at Casa de Mi Padre is amazing! The wonderful ways He orchestrates situations continually cause us to praise our Father who “is truly is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think” - Ephesians 3:20

A few weeks ago, Shane received a call asking if we had room for four more children to come live at Casa, three sisters and a brother. Three of our older girls had turned 18 and moved out of Casa, which left three open beds in the girls’ room. For the past few months we had been praying that God would send us some more girls to fill these empty places. These three new girls were an answer to prayer, but what about their brother? Our boys’ rooms were already full. Well, Shane didn’t want to break apart this little family group, so he decided we would just have to get another bed for our younger boys’ room. It would be kind of crowded, but we would make it work. With this plan, Shane headed off to Guatemala City to pick up the four siblings…

That same day, back in our hometown of Quiché, Cole was scheduled to take two of our boys, Antonio and Jorge, to a court hearing. These hearings occur every few months to review the status of each of our kids and determine if they get to remain in our custody or if they should be reassigned to live with family members. Both boys had attended many hearings throughout their years of living at Casa, and no eligible family members had ever come who were deemed worthy of taking care for them. We all assumed this would just be another normal day with the judicial system. Little did we know that this was the last day we would spend with one of those boys. Jorge’s sister and her husband appeared in court. They said they wanted to take care of their younger brother. They both have steady jobs at a bank and attend an evangelical church. The judge asked Jorge where he would like to live. Although he felt sad to leave the kids and loving staff at Casa, he had yearned to live with family members for quite some time and decided he would like to move to his sister’s house. Cole brought him, his sister, and her husband to Casa for a final farewell from the staff and kids. We prayed over him and shared parting remarks, tears, and hopes for the future. We are excited for him to begin a new chapter of life with his family! What a blessing that God would provide a loving home for Jorge on the very same day that we welcomed the four new siblings to Casa. We didn’t even have to get another bed for the new boy; the Lord made a place for him!!!

These four new, young children have infused Casa with a fresh dose of energy and joy. Reina (10), David (9), Virginia (5), and Jennifer (2 and a half) love to play and get hugs. We are excited for them to learn more about Christ. A couple days after arriving, David told Cole about a dream he had the previous night. In it, he had seen Jesus riding a donkey. Jesus had called for David to join Him in the right path. Cole asked David what Jesus was like; David said He was very good and beautiful.

We praise God for His divine providence in providing a home for Jorge and for giving us four new precious children to care for!

Homework

June 14, 2018

We take homework seriously here at Casa de Mi Padre. Our staff members help the kids with their studies each day. We pray that the instruction the receive at their Christian school and the assistance we provide them here will help them mature into competent young adults who can serve God through their knowledge and skills!

Bible Study & Blackberries

Posted May 28, 2018

The kids studied hard during their weekly Bible Quizzing practice. We are so blessed to be able to help them learn the Word of God while they are in our care!

Our Saturday night youth rally featured pizza, fund, and praise and worship of God.

The kids here at Casa enjoy hunting for and picking blackberries each year. The blessings of this season just got a little sweeter as they learned to turn their harvest into pies with some guidance from Sarah McCauley!

Camp!!!!

Posted December 12th, 2016

Every year we have a wonderful team from St. Joseph, Missouri come and help us put on a camp for youth ages 12-18 years of age.  We of course take our kids and invite teenagers from all over the area to come for a week of camp in which they have tons of fun and also get ministered to with the precious word of God.  The first night a strong salvation message was preached and we had 15 young people come forward to receive Jesus Christ into their hearts and lives.  Four of those 15 were from Casa de Mi Padre and so we are rejoicing deeply.  The next few nights were geared towards challenging our young people to totally surrender their lives to Christ and recognize the need to live a holy life before God.  Each of those nights saw the altar filled with young people confessing their sins and surrendering the control of their lives to Christ.  It was an amazing sight to see young people shedding tears over their sin and willingly giving their lives and their futures to the Lord.  Please pray for every decision that was made and that the Lord will see each young person through to completion in their hearts.

Our kids love to be active

Posted June 29, 2016

The kids at Casa de Mi Padre absolutely love to be active, whether it is riding their bikes, hiking down the canyon, playing futbol, or just running around the yard and playing.  When we move to the new house on the new land, there will be so much more room for out kids to be active and do more things outside.  We are even planning on teaching them how to raise animals and take care of them as well as raise a garden and grow their own food.  In a country like Guatemala this is very important information to know and we want to prepare our kids in every way possible for life once they grow up and move away from the Casa.  Pray for our kids as they move ever closer to these inevitable changes.
