Meet the Kids!

Casa de mi Padre 2018 Family Photo

Each one of our kiddos are unique, which you'll see in their bios below. Some of them are quiet and academically driven. Others are goofy, and the greatest resources of laughter in our home! They all have unique giftings and personalities, but they also have two commonalities:

1. Each one of our children have experienced significant trauma in their lives. Most of their stories include abandonment and abuse.

2. Their lives have been radically transformed by Jesus Christ.

They all came to us broken, bruised, hurt, disillusioned, and afraid.  But regardless of the horrors they have seen and experienced, Jesus has eliminated the darkest parts of their lives with His glorious light. For some, it took days... and for others it took years. Some of the children are still to this day holding close their deepest hurts from Jesus. Nevertheless, we will press on loving unconditionally each child because we are confident of this: "...that He who began a good work in each of our precious children will carry it on to completion." (Philippians 1:6, emphasis added)

We have seen them transform from sorrowful to joyful...

from trembling with fear, to striding in confidence....

from anxious darting eyes, to clear eyes filled with peace.

And that is at the core of our mission: to rescue broken children from destructrive circumstances, and restore them to wholeness through the power of Jesus Christ. Our heart is to:

bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
to comfort all who mourn;

to give them a crown of beauty instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness instead of mourning,
the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit;
that they may be called oaks of righteousness!

Isaiah 61:1-3

So here they are! Our precious children made new in Christ. As you read through their profiles you will see pieces of brokenness intermingled with healing. You'll notice that their pasts have shaped them, but do not define them.

As you read their bios, you will be impacted by the power of each story. You may also wish you had the capacity to

be there

for them. Well you do! Through our "Be There" sponsorship program you can quite literally be there for each child. You can be there at their first birthday party, by providing funds for their gifts. You can be there when they fall off their bike and need stitches, by helping us provide for their medical needs. You can be there in discipleship, by helping cover the costs of the camp and leadership programs our older children get to attend. You can be there for the kids when you can't physically be here in Guatemala.

If you are drawn towards one child, we ask that you:

  1. Prayerfully consider being there for them.

  2. If you decide you can be there for that child, then click on the blue button in their profile (just like the one above)

  3. Put the amount you'd like to give in the box for "Child Rescue" and follow the prompts. Send an email to specifying which child you'd like to be there for!

It's that easy! So without further ado...

we introduce the children of Casa de mi Padre!

Favorite Princess: Elsa

Favorite Activity:  Trampoline

She is our WILD CHILD with a heart of gold. She came to us at the age of 5 in July 2018 with her siblings, Yaser David, Reyna, and Yenifer. They were abandoned by their mother and abused by their father. She came to us very anxious – manifested through difficulty following instruction (in school and at home), difficulty retaining information, and fearfulness of unfamiliar people or activities. The longer she has lived in our loving and secure home, we’ve seen these symptoms decrease significantly. We give all glory to God for the healing He has done (and continues to do) in her wounded heart!

Virginia is such a light in our home. She loves unconditionally, despite her history of trauma and abandonment. She gives an abundance of strong hugs and sticky kisses. She is very active, and loves jumping on the trampoline and playing games of chase with the other children. She is learning about Jesus every day, and we pray that one day she will understand the gospel and make the decision to ask Jesus to be the King over her life forever.

Favorite Princess: Sleeping Beauty

Favorite Activity: Basketball

Elda is typically a little shy at first, but after she gets to know a person she loves them with every fiber of her being! She came to us at the age of 4 in December 2016 with her older sister Lucrecia. They were petrified of these new pale strangers who the police had taken them to, and were withdrawn and anxious for days. They had been severely mistreated by their guardians, and feared what would happen in this strange new place. We poured out love and affection onto them, and slowly they began to trust and feel safe. Elda still struggles with fear sometimes, but she has so much joy that wasn’t there before. She gives genuine hugs and kisses, and loves fiercely those who have gained her trust. She is playful and her laughter is infectious.

Pray that the Lord would eradicate the fear in her life, and that she would truly KNOW who she is as a CHILD of GOD!”

"My two favorite activities are singing and praying!" -Elda

- Yaser -

Yaser David doesn’t know a stranger, and will talk your ear off if you let him! He came to us at age 9 in July 2018 with his sisters: Yenifer, Virginia, and Reyna. They’ve been shuffled around to different homes, having been abused by their father and abandoned by their mother. In spite of his terrible beginnings, he has so much hope and joy! This little boy LOVES Jesus and is often excitedly telling others about Him. He knows the gospel, and can share it through several different methods. He made a Salvation Bracelet at VBS this year, and excitedly came home explaining how Jesus saved the world to everyone. He is an active little boy who loves to get in the dirt like all the others. He also likes to sing and act in dramas at church. He is a treasure!

Please pray for Yaser David that he will seek to know and be like Jesus more and more every day!

- Yoshuan -

Yoshuan (also lovingly called Yoshi) is pretty quiet, until he starts to laugh and then it fills the room! Yoshuan came to us at the age of 9 in 2014 from a much larger orphanage.  They called us one day stating that they had a boy who was out of control, and they just couldn’t keep him anymore. We agreed to take him and had to drive 3-1/2 hours to pick him up.  On the initial ride to Casa de Mi Padre, he seemed to be full of conflicting emotions: fear, anger, confusion, and nervousness. He didn’t say a word, but when Shane said, “Do you wanna get some pizza before we head back?” His eyes changed flashed from rebellion to excitement, and he nodded emphatically. It only took a few days for him to begin to adapt and to change once he came into our home.  His entire countenance changed quickly from droopy shouldered and sad into confident and playful!

Pray for Yoshuan that he will continue to grow up to love God and to serve God with all of his heart.

"I want to be a doctor when I grow up, so I can help others!"

- Reyna -

As the oldest of four siblings, she’s the quiet and responsible one! She came to us at age 10 in July 2018 with her siblings, Yaser David, Virginia, and Yenifer. She was abandoned by her mother, and abused by her father. On her first day, she seemed to be full of conflicting emotions: nervousness, curiosity, relief, and hope. After several weeks, she began to come out of her shell of timidity and started building strong bonds with the other girls. She has become close friends with Lucrecia and Brenda, our other two pre-teen girls. She loves all things “girl” like the color pink, jewelry, sparkles, and nail polish. She started learning how to read at school, and it has opened up a whole new world for her! She LOVES it!

It’s been a long process of teaching her what is righteous after 10 years of learning bad behaviors necessary to survive in the toxic home environment within which she lived. She’s had to unlearn manipulating others, lying, and stealing. It’s been a difficult journey, but she’s begun to feel safe and truly loved. Not a love based on merit that wavers with attitudes and mistakes, but the true love of Jesus. We pray that as we love her unconditionally and point her to Christ, she will truly believe that He also loves her and always will.

I think the most important thing is knowing how to read. -Reyna

- Yenifer -

Yenifer is an adventurous and active little 3-year-old! She has a fiery spirit  that even the abuse and trauma she's experienced couldn't destroy. Yenifer came to us in July 2018 with her three siblings: Reyna, Yaser David, and Virginia. She was abused by her father, and abandoned by her mother. Through the love of Jesus, those wounds have begun to heal. She now has the freedom to play without fear of what's coming. Yenifer is her happiest swimming in water or sucking on a lollipop. She gives lots of hugs and kisses, and is not shy about telling those she cares about, "Te quiero!" (I love you!). She is attending a pre-school this year, and learning so quickly! She can count her numbers, knows her colors, and so much more! We are so proud of her!

Pray that the Lord Jesus Christ would continue to heal what others have broken in her, and that she would truly know Jesus and understand the gospel as she grows with us.

"I love Peppa pig, cows, jumping on the trampoline, playing in water, and learning at my new school!" -Yenifer

- Jimmy -

Jimmy is fun loving and a real jokester! However, when he first came to us in January 2011 at the age of 6 he was very hurt and angry.  It was a slow process of healing with Jimmy, but soon Jesus transformed him entirely.  After he made Jesus king over his life, we began to see joy blooming in him through smiles and laughter. Jimmy is now a constant source of joy and laughter in the home. He is often surrounded by other kids telling a joke or playing a game. He speaks Spanish fluently and is also learning three languages; English, Kiche (a native mayan tongue), and Spanish Sign Language. He is an incredible soccer player, and aspires to pursue futbol as a future career. He is sweet-natured, unafraid to give and receive love even in front of his friends.

We pray that the Lord will protect his heart, and that he will hold fast to the Word of God as he learns what it is to become a man.

- Geovany -

Geovany is the quiet strength in our home. He is the middle child of three (Walter and Cristina are his siblings) that came to us in 2011 at the age of 9. He was shell-shocked when he first came to us, like a soldier who’s left a war zone. He was the one who initiated escaping their abusive situation, and almost didn’t know what to do with himself when they were in a safe loving place. With time he grew to trust us, and opened his heart to the love of Jesus. His icy protected heart melted, and he relaxed into the safety and love of our home. Of all of our children, he is the most studious – in both his studies and the Word of God. He spends much of his free time studying his bible, and thirsts to know God more deeply every day. He is also one of our best bible-quizzers! When he smiles his million-dollar grin, it’s evident that the peace and love of Christ has taken residence in him. He is dignified and walks with confidence, pursuing righteousness intently.

We pray that he will always hunger after the Lord as he grows into a young man!

"I have been using Youtube videos and learning by ear how to play guitar. I love music, and someday want to play professionally." -Geovany

- Pancho -

Pancho is a goofball! He can distort his expression into the silliest of faces, and brings so much laughter to our home. He came to us at the age of 7 in 2012, scared and anxious. He had been abandoned as a baby, and turned over into the hands of a man who would hurt him for the next seven years. He was rescued and brought into our care, but not without physical and emotional scars. We didn’t see his true personality for quite a while, as it took a long time for him to begin to trust and receive love. With time, love, and the power of Jesus Christ his silly nature began to crack through… and he’s been making us laugh ever since! He is a unique guy, and doesn’t fit into the mold of any one group. He slides from one group of friends to the next, bringing an abundance of laughter and joy with him.

Please pray that Pancho will grow into a man that loves Jesus with his whole heart and uses his silliness effectively to encourage and uplift the downtrodden around him.

"I’m strong. I can do squats with Pedro David on my back." -Pancho

- David -

David is the epitome of a gentle and quiet spirit. He came to our home at the age of 7 in January 2013. He had been severely abused, with the deep wounds and bruises of a recent attack just days before. He was scared and withdrawn, and it took a lot of patience and love to win his trust. Through the love of Jesus his heart began to open, and he began to receive unconditional love for the first time. He is an old soul, full of wisdom and kindness. He also loves to knit and tend to the garden he created in the backyard. He's also very artistic, able to free hand many complex cartoon characters beautifully! He's still a cautious fellow, but willing to try new things with proper investigation. He is very organized and academically driven, and sometimes he needs to be reminded to take a break and have fun!!

Pray for David that he would persevere in righteousness as he faces the challenges of adolescence and becoming a man.

- Lucrecia -

Lucrecia is kind and thoughtful, and doesn’t have a dishonest or mean bone in her body! She came to us with her little sister, Elda, at the age of 8 in December 2016. Their eyes were filled with fear and uncertainty, and tears spilled over as they wondered what would happen to them next. They suffered from severe maltreatment by the ones who should have loved them, and had never felt secure or safe in a home before. All of that changed, and their fear diminished day by day. Lucrecia accepted Jesus Christ into her heart on Easter Sunday in 2018, and the transformation is evident in her life. She approached one of our staff with tears streaming down her face, and exclaimed that she’d spent time alone with God for the first time… and that it was so beautiful! Through the years, her fear has been replaced with confidence! She is known and loved in our home, and it’s evident in her interactions with all of the staff and children. She listens attentively during devotions and church, soaking up new knowledge about her Savior.

Pray for Lucrecia, that she would trust the Lord with her future. In moments of uncertainty, her fear and anxiety returns. Pray that the Lord would strengthen her, and give her courage.

"My best talent is jump rope!" -Lucrecia

- Walter -

Walter is wild and unpredictably silly. Unpredictable, because we never know what crazy prank or joke he’s going to pull! (Who else picks THANOS for their favorite SUPERHERO?!) He didn’t always use to be this way though, he was angry and out of control when he first came to us 2011 at the age of 6. He is the youngest in the family, and came with his older siblings Cristina and Geovany. When they first came to us, they were void of emotion for awhile until the anger and hatred came bubbling out. He lived in a home that was destructive and dangerous. He was resistant to love and correction, but with time his heart began to change. Now this prankster is a source of laughter in our home (and occassionally tears when he takes it too far!). We love this young man dearly, quirks and all!

Pray that he will pursue Jesus with his whole heart and learn to balance grace and truth as he matures into a young man.

- Esau -

Esau is a smart, enthusiastic, happy little boy. He expresses himself with sincerity and boldness.  He came to us with his little brother Ricardo when he was just 5-years-old. Previously, they lived with their paternal grandmother, who physically abused them. They were rescued with the help of a kind school teacher who noticed the bumps and bruises on their faces and arms. Despite all the suffering and fear he has experienced, Esau lives life energetically! He gets along with the other children and enjoys playing with cars and riding his bicycle.

Best of all, Esau loves to listen to stories from the Bible. Some of his favorite characters are Moses, David, and Goliath.  David is his hero because David, even though he was so small, killed a giant. Pray for Esau to seek and learn more about Jesus every day!

Ricardo is Esau’s brother. He is funny and cheerful with a sensitive heart.  Ricardo was just 4-years-old when he came to us. He had been living with his paternal grandmother who abused him. He and his brother were rescued with the help of a caring school teacher who noticed the bumps and bruises on the brothers’ face and arms.  Despite the history of abuse and suffering he has experienced, Ricardo is happy and playful. He likes to bike, play board games, video games and jump on the trampoline. He dreams of someday riding a horse!

The other kids love him. When he hears a Bible story, he gladly takes the opportunity to lead a devotional to tell the other kids what he has learned. Please remember Ricardo in your prayers. Ask the Lord to reveal Himself and draw Ricardo into a personal relationship with Christ.

"I like to enjoy life!" -Ricardo

- Mario -

Mario is overflowing with joy and contentment. From the moment he wakes up, to the moment he goes to sleep... he is smiling from ear to ear. He came to live in our home in 2017 at the age of 9. He was abandoned at a hotel by his mother. She cared deeply for him, but had no resources and left him in a hotel with his birth certifcate where she knew he would be found. He adjusted faster than any child in our home, and jumped in headfirst on day one! This mischievous little boy has been a source of constant laughter in our home. He is one of those kids that everyone loves, because he's gives so much of himself to everyone he meets. He is also completely deaf, but it does not define him. He participates in everything that all the other kids do, and he excels in it! In February 2019 he began to attend a boarding school for the deaf, so that he could learn more sign language and trade skills.

Pray for Mario, that he would learn quickly the skills and language at his new school. Pray that he would boldy share the gospel to the other children too!

- Brenda -

Brenda is caring and motherly, and can often be found looking after the youngest children of the home voluntarily. She came to our home at the age of 7 in June 2013 very broken. She was completely closed off to everyone, and full of fear. She had no idea what a functional family was like, as she had been living with her abusive sister after her mother abandoned her. She lived in terrible conditions in that home, and was also severely neglected. Through much love and patience, we began to see the evidence of transformation in her life that can only come through the power of Jesus. It has taken her a long time to heal from the trauma of her past, but she has really come out of her shell within the last two years. She is kind, helpful, and loves to play and laugh. We’ve watched her grow into a young lady who will become a wonderful loving mother someday, and end the cycle of abuse her mother and sisters still live in.

Pray for Brenda that the Lord would give her boldness and strength as she matures into a beautiful lady!

"I describe myself as someone who is kind and sometimes obedient."

- Jorge -

Jorge is an extraordinary little boy.  He is very affectionate, intelligent, helpful and compassionate. Jorge was neglected and abandoned by his mother. He was born with profound, bilateral hearing loss. His inability to hear, heightens Jorge’s ability to notice when others are hurting or need help. He walks around the house with a pencil and paper in hand, just in case he sees something he wants to draw!

Jorge is learning about Jesus and he is learning how to pray. Please pray for Jorge as we begin to teach him how to communicate with others and live in close relationship with other children.  Pray we can bridge the hearing disability so he can know who Jesus is.

- Maria -

María is cheerful, wonderful in every way and can be a little silly. She spends her time laughing and talking. She came with us when she was 9-years-old. Maria lost her parents when she was very young.  She was sent to live with an aunt who physically abused her and finally rejected her completely. Even though she has faced tremendous loss, Maria overflows with hope and joy.

Maria has suffered from epilepsy since early childhood. But with the medical care we have been able to give her, medication controls her seizures and, thank God,  they have subsided.

Maria enjoys playing video games, but doesn’t let that get in the way of her studies. She is very happy that while with us she has learned to read and add. Maria is special. She likes to read the Bible and has a notebook where she writes down her favorite verses. Please pray that María will learn to know and love God more!

- Carlitos -

Intelligent, helpful, and sweetly polite best describes Carlitos. His favorite sport is soccer and he is thrilled to be enrolled in a soccer academy called Roca Fut. Before coming to Casa de Mi Padre at 11-years-old, he suffered from child labor exploitation.  You would never know it today. Carlitos has a happiness and joy that you can see in his smile.

Carlitos is very studious and applies himself in everything he does. He loves to draw cartoon characters and paint. He also likes to read and listen to Bible stories.  He says when he grows up, he wants to preach the Word of God.  At the age of 11, he received Christ into his heart. We were thrilled.  Please pray for Carlitos as he learns more about the Word of God, his Savior Jesus and grows in his faith.

"I like to play hard!" -Carlitos

- Tomas -

Tomas is a boy with dreams in his heart. He suffers from a disability called Right Clubfoot, making it difficult for him to walk. He dreams that one day he will be able to walk and run like the other children. Before coming to Casa De Mi Padre at 11-years-old, he suffered from physical violence and labor exploitation from his family. In spite of this, Tomas is cheerful and affectionate.

He likes to learn from the Word of God, read the Bible, and help his peers.  When he grows up, he would like to share the Word of God with those who do not know about Jesus. Please pray with us for Tomas so that he learns more about the Word of God and knows Jesus a little more every day!

- Andrea -

Andrea is a sweet, energetic and outgoing little lady. She loves to be busy and enjoys playing with the other girls.  When Andrea was 6-years-old she was sent to live with a woman she called her “aunt” In reality, the woman was not a family relation. In time, she physically abused Andrea. Other adults who saw what was happening involved the police who finally removed her from the home. Andrea has suffered much but is excited for the new start God has given her at Casa De Mi Padre.

Andrea is an excellent student, loves participating in class and is diligent in her school work. She is happy here and can be heard after school playing and laughing with the other little girls in their room.  Andrea is our newest girl and at this point, does not know very much about the Bible or the story of Jesus. But we know that in time, her mind will comprehend and her heart will open up to the love of Christ. Please pray for Andrea. Pray she will soon know Him.
