More Than Conquerors

"No, in all these things we are

more than

conquerers

through Him who loved us."

-Romans 8:37

Transitioning from being a kid into an adult is hard. Those formative years are often the most impactful and memorable a person will experience. It's a time of navigating uncharted waters as the child figures out how to juggle new responsibilities, new complications, and new relationships. Unfortunately, our children do not have the safety net of a loving and supportive family that most do. As our children began growing up into young men and women we knew that we couldn't be another adult that abandons them... and thus our transition program "More Than Conquerors" was born.

When our children turn 18, it's time for them to leave our nest where they've comfortably lived safe and warm for years.  We don't just kick them out and hope they don't get eaten by the predators waiting below. We continue investing in their lives, and walk with them through this new phase of life into adulthood. Through the help of both Americans and Guatemalans, we are able to support them until they can fly independently. Through American sponsors we are able to fund 100% of their tuition as they pursue a career path and a brighter future (through university or technical school). We also partner with christian Guatemalan families to house them, meet their daily needs, and continue to disciple them.
The program was thus named, because they are more than conquerors through Christ. Christ has restored hope and joy to them, where sorrow and helplessness once ruled their lives. Through Christ, they have conquered oppression, abuse, abandonment, and poverty. God has sovereignly rescued them out of desperate circumstances, and placed them in our care to love and restore them. They are free from the physical and spiritual bondage that once kept them in darkness. They have conquered much in their lives, and it is only through Jesus Christ's sovereign hand over the lives. For if God is for them, who can be against them? Now that they have reached the physical age of adulthood, a new phase of life has begun. They have moved up in the ranks to the front lines, and will continue to conquer the cycle of poverty and abuse that once held them captive.
Would you like to be a part of this journey with our conquerors? You can BE THERE for them as they learn to take on the world outside of the comforts and safety of our home! Just click on the button in the profile of the young adult you'd like to support.
We are so proud of our world conquerors!! Meet them below!

- Gerson -

Gerson is sweet-natured and introverted. He came to live in our home in June 2014 at the age of 14. He was rescued from a desctructive and dangerous home, which left him emotionally and physically scarred. He had a rebellious streak, and often reacted out of fear. But within the first few months of living in our home, Gerson gave Jesus Christ total reign over his life. His heart has been radically changed since that day, and we've seen a total transformation in him! His fearfulness has been replaced with courage. He often visits our home, and steps up as a leader. He helps without being asked in tasks or with the little ones. He has an incredible servant's heart, and loves those around him fiercly. He is also incredibly intelligent, hence his pursuit of computer sciences! He was chatting with a staff member about a lecture where he learned how to take a part a smart phone to fix some of the most common problems. His eyes shone with excitement as he shared what he learned -- which was far above the understanding of the staff!

Pray for Gerson that he will not be tempted by the things of this world, and that he will pursue Jesus with his whole heart forever!

- Fermina -

Fermina is soft spoken and wise, and she embodies a maturing young woman of God beautifully for the other girls younger than she. She first came to us at the age of 13  in March 2013 with her two older sisters, all of them broken from years of abuse. But the Lord transformed her heart and life, and she began to feel safe and loved. Now, she is entering high school, with a medical emphasis in her classes. Who knows... maybe she'll be our first doctor! She was our top female bible quizzer for many years, and now has taken over directing bible quizzing as entirely! She works very hard at her education, knowing that it is a privilege that many other Guatemalan girls her age are unable to attain. This girl is ambitious and determined, and we are confident that she will conquer whatever she puts her mind to!

Please pray for Fermina as she becomes more independent, that she would take ownership of her relationship with Jesus Christ and pursue Him wholeheartedly. Pray that she would not get caught up by the distractions of technology or this world, but that her eyes would be fixed on Him.

"In the future I want to be a teacher during the day, and serve as a firefighter/paramedic at night." -Fermina

- Sandra -

Sandra is a sincere, warm, and caring young lady. She came to us in October 2011 at the age of 11 broken and distraught. She literally cried the entire first 24 hours that she was with us. She suffered greatly from severe abuse before living in our home, and it was very difficult for her to learn to trust again. She was scared, afraid and disillusioned and had no idea what was going to happen to her, but through our ministry Jesus has changed her life. She's the kind of person that radiates love. She makes everyone around her feel instantly at peace and comfortable with her calming presence. She currently lives in Xela with a wonderful family, and is studying architectural drawing. She is also very invested in her church, and loves spending time with her girlfriends from church.

Pray for Sandra that she will recover from the deep emotional wounds that she has experienced in her life, and that she will trust Jesus with every hurt and desire in her heart.

- Peter -

Peter is driven by his passions -- the greatest of which is Jesus! He first came to our home in August 2011 at the age of 11. He and his younger brother, Ruben were severely mistreated by the people who were supposed to love them. Peter was wild, uncontrollable, and filled with anger. As he began to trust and rest in the safety of Casa de mi Padre, the rage within simmered out. Last Spring at a leadership training, he felt the Lord calling him to pursue pastoral ministry. He currently lives in Xela with a wonderful pastor and his family.

He is studying architectural drawing and attending seminary at the same time! On top of all that he spends a lot of time serving at their church. He is a hard working young man, and always seems to have an abundance of energy and joy! His strong conviction and love for the Lord is evident in his passionate preaching. When he's not sharing the gospel though, he's probably playing a prank! He's well-known around here for his constantly joking around!

Pray for Peter that he will not burn out as he works tirelessly to pursue the dreams and passions the Lord has given him. Pray that he will continue to grow in his knowledge and love of Jesus.

Reyna is radiates joy, and her contagious laughter infects everyone within hearing distance! She came to us very serious and sorrowful at the age of 12 in March 2012.  She was deeply hurt, and still bears the scars. The ones who were supposed to love her uncondonditionally inflicted significant pain and trauma that has taken years for her to heal from. As she grew in the safety and love of our home, she began to experience freedom as she surrendered her hurt and resentment. The Lord restored her hope and joy, and it is evident that her life has been transformed! She is currently living with a pastor and his family here in Santa Cruz del Quiche, and is continuing her studies at the local high school. She feels called by God to be a missionary, though in what respect she is not yet sure!

Pray for Reina that she would begin to disciple young girls as she has been discipled, and that the Lord would give her wisdom as she pursues the mission field.

- Cristina -

Cristina is a wise young lady, with a very sweet disposition. She is the oldest of our first family here at Casa with her younger brothers Geovany and Walter, and was the very first princess of the house! She escaped a dangerous situation as a young girl, and was living on the streets. The police brought her and her siblings to our home when she was 10-years-old in August 2011. When her and her brothers entered our care they were filled with fear, disillusioned, and very broken. She is an organized and responsible young woman, and has balanced a job and school for the last few years. She is currently living in Chichicastenango studying to be a bi-lingual secretary. She has a basic knowledge of English, but all of her classes and reading materials are in English, which is really challenging! We are so impressed by how she's tackled the challenges of this new phase of life!

Pray for Cristina that she will be able to manage her new busy schedule, and also continue to grow in her relationship with Jesus and pursue Him.

Ruben is kind of the “man of the house” aside from Shane and Enoc. He has earned the respect of his peers and the younger children by being a servant leader and leading with patience and wisdom. Ruben is the younger brother of Peter (see his profile on our transition program page!) and came to us at the age of 9 in 2011. He and his brother suffered from poverty, neglect, and abuse before coming to live in our home. The trauma and abuse he experienced turned him into a very angry child, but through the love of Jesus, his life has been radically changed! His anger has dissipated, and he’s become such a godly young man.

He takes time to teach and play with the younger children, something many of the older boys don’t bother with. He is a passionate evangelist, and felt the Lord calling him to pursue pastoral teaching in the Spring of 2018. Since then, he’s really stepped up and taken more responsibility. He leads many of our devotions in the home, and has even preached a few times in church or standing on the steps of the catholic church in the town square. He is unashamed of the gospel, and is a modern day Paul! Pray for Ruben that he would continue to pursue the Lord with his whole heart, and would not be distracted by the things of this world in the process. We are confident that God has a big plan for his life, and that he has the ability to impact thousands of lives with his gifts and testimony!

- Benito -

Benito is a quiet and gentle guy, with a silly side too! He first came to us at the age of 12 in July 2011. As a child he was physically and emotionally abused by his caregivers, and worke in the city as a shoe shiner. One day he fell asleep on a bus, and woke up in our city. He was terrified and deeply wounded, but through the love of Jesus Christ he began to feel safe and opened his heart. He is great with kids, and would often play with the littler ones. He has a calming and confident presence, and is a peaceful person.
He left our transitional program the first time around to try and figure out life on his own several years ago. He was ditching his classes and work, and his grades were plummeting. He left angry and prideful, but returned remorseful and repentent in December 2018. He is working very hard now in both school and a job, and lives with Cole and Sarah McCauley in Santa Cruz del Quiche. On top of working towards graduating high school, he is attending a vocational training to learn welding. He's made a complete turn around on his approach to life, and has grown up so much in the last few years.
Please pray for Benito that he would stay on the right path, and follow Jesus wholeheartedly.
